MONDAY MORNING WALK: Meet 8:30am at Mission Plaza to carpool to Ojai Land Conservancy. Walk into Wills Canyon starting at 9am. PAT 643-0270 (SP)

August 8
GAVIOTA LOOP: A portion of this 4 mrt hike will take the little-used Woodland Trail. We start from the northern end of the park, taking the Ortega Trail, which connects with the Overlook Fire Road. Instead of continuing to the lookout point, we’ll take the Woodland Trail to the top of the ridge, then circle back to our starting point. Be prepared for some brushy sections. SOUTHERN SIERRA BACKPACK OLANCHO PEAK: Arrive at Kennedy Meadows above Owens Valley (not to be confused with Kennedy Meadow near Sonora). Hike in 2 miles from the trailhead to a camp by the Kern River. Continue up the Kern for the next two days to our highest camp at 9300 ft. Day 4 is the hike with day packs through the wildflowers and an optional hike to the top of Olancho Peak at 12,123 ft., then back the 4 miles to the previous night’s camp. Next day hike 8 miles to the first night’s camp, then 2 miles out the last day. Much of the trip is on the Pacific Crest Trail. FIR CANYON: Car pool to Davy Brown camp behind Figueroa Mt. Steep hike up the most beautiful canyon in the area to near the top of Figueroa Mt. Moderate 6.5 mrt. Bring lunch and water. Meet behind B of A on upper State St. at Hope Ave. at 9am. DAVE 563-4850 (SB)

ARROYO BURRO DOWN: Drive to trailhead on Camino Cielo then down the mountain to the Santa Ynez River. About 7.5mrt; 2000' elevation loss/gain. Decent shade on the North side of the mountain. ANCIENT BRISTLECONE PINE FOREST: Come with us to the beautiful White Mtns to camp, hike and just relax. On Saturday, we’ll hike the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest on a moderate 5 mile-loop interpretive trail, followed by a picnic lunch and a short optional hike to a nearby old mining cabin. Back at camp we’ll enjoy Happy Hour, a potluck feast and a campfire. Sunday pack up and head home. Group size strictly limited. CANINE HIKE ROMERO CANYON: Moderate hike up hill along Romero Creek, mostly shaded trail, then back down the fire road. Total 6 miles, 1500 ft elevation gain. Well behaved dogs welcomed and encouraged; must be leashed. Bring snack and water for you and your canine companion. Hikers without dogs welcome too. Meet at B of A parking lot at 8 am. NOTE EARLY START TIME. Hike limited to ten dogs - please call to reserve your dog's place. SALLY 689-7820 (SB)
